We are always on the hunt for good books, with so many different books available it’s always a trick to find a really good new series that we like. That’s why we were thrilled to be able to review the WorthKids Books! These books are time-travelling adventure stories that take you to significant events in the bible. We were able to read Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Shepherds Stone (Book 5) and Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Lions Roar (Book 6) during this review and I can assure you we will be buying the rest of the series! We really enjoyed travelling through these bible stories with siblings Peter, Mary, along with their furry dog friend!

What we liked about the books

I really liked that the books were written so that younger children can read and comprehend them easily. Yet, they are written in a way that really brings the stories to life. Sometimes I feel that bible storybooks can be geared towards a very young audience and my son who is almost nine years old gets bored with them, with these books we didn’t have that problem. My son was engaged in the story the whole time that he was reading. On the other hand, my daughter who is six really enjoyed listening to the stories and was still able to follow along!

The kids both enjoyed the fact that the books had cute little illustrations. I think that they really add to the story and make it just that much more engaging for the children! The illustrations are done in black and white but are still really cute and I don’t think that the lack of colour takes away from them at all!

My son says that his favourite part of the books is the poem that Peter and Mary have to use in order to have their time-travelling adventures. Here’s the poem:
“The scrolls contain the truth you seek.
Break the seal. Unroll the scroll.
And you will see the past unfold.
Amazing adventures are in store
For those who follow the lion’s roar!”

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Shepherd’s Stone
In this book, you travel back in time with the siblings to visit David as a young shepherd boy in the time leading up to his faceoff with Goliath! My son says that the best parts about the book were the more action-type scenes. There are two parts he mentions over and over. There is a part where the brother Peter is helping David rescue a sheep that is stuck on a tree hanging over a cliff. David starts to slip and Peter has to save him, he’s scared but gets the strength from God by praying about the situation. The other part my son really liked was the fight that the three kids had with a bear!

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Lion’s Roar
In this book, you travel with Peter and Mary to Babylon! They wind up in a mess with Daniel as he’s about to get thrown in the lion’s den. My son said that he liked hearing this story that he’s heard a bunch of times from a bit of a different perspective! I think he really feels like he is on the journey along Peter and Mary as he’s reading these stories.
