We recently had the opportunity to review a fairly new homeschool science provider, CrossWired Science. So far we are really enjoying the Sounds and Fluid Dynamics and we are really looking forward to continuing our science journey with them! You can use CrossWireds Science in a couple of ways, firstly they suggest that you can use it as a full science curriculum for a three month time, although you can also use it as more of a casual loosely based science curriculum that you dive in and out of. We used it a little more loosely as I have younger children and they neither of them do well with tons of hard structure. With the curriculum flexibility, it can be great for any style of homeschooling.
The Lessons
The lessons in CrossWired Science are packed full of information, book recommendations, videos, experiments, and more. You can use this curriculum as a full science curriculum for a three month period or you can use it as a fun addition to learning science throughout the year. We chose to use it as more of an add-on and find the things that really interested us at the time. This seems to go with our homeschooling style more than if we were to use it as a full curriculum over a three month period.
Each of the topics, Fluid Dynamics and Sound, are filled with tons of information and learning opportunities presented in a bunch of different ways. The units start off with a bunch of informational videos that have multiple choice tests to quiz your knowledge on the video the children just watched. There are also areas where you can find books that are related to the topics, they provide book ideas for all different reading levels. They also provide instructions for experiments, each experiment comes with detailed instructions and videos that you can watch to show you how the experiment is properly done.
What We Are Liking Best
Our family has really been liking the videos because they are so packed full of information but are short enough to hold the attention of even my youngest child. We weren’t really a fan of the multiple choice tests after all of the videos because we normally don’t include any testing in our homeschool. That being said it’s very easy to just not use the test part if it doesn’t work for your family and if your family does like tests then its there for you to use. The kids really enjoyed the hands-on science experiments. One that really stands out is the boat experiment where they got to make their own little boats. There are also tons of experiments that they are still really looking forward to trying out, one of them being the fish dissection. We are definitely excited to keep on digging!
What I Think You’ll Like

- The videos are interesting and keep the kid’s attention
- Tons of experiments to keep you busy
- Easy to use site for parents and children
- Tons and tons of book recommendations for different reading levels
- They even give you FIELD TRIP ideas!
