We were able to review the study guide for the book In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson – E-Guide. This is just one of many study guides that Progeny Press. We really like finding ways to make books really come to life and things like this really help. Progeny Press helps you do a full language arts study while reading an awesome book.

What exactly is a Progeny Press study guide

You are provided with tons of different activities and worksheets that are related to the book that you are reading. This means that you are able to guide your child in a language arts study while you read some awesome classics.

With this study guide, you are learning important language skills such as point of view and critical thinking. There are questions in the guide that help you work through these skills. Every question is directly related to the story that you are reading.

There are also worksheets on important things such as vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension. The questions really get the children thinking about the story. The nice thing about these is that lots of them can be done as verbal questions if your child really doesn’t like writing or is unable to write the answers by themselves.

How did we use the Progeny Press study guide

We used this together as a family. I read the story to my children and then we answered and did the worksheets together. This worked well for my family as both of my children struggle with language arts. It was easy to work through the questions together and most things I just dictated for them.

Another way that you could use this study guide would be to read the story out loud and then have your child do the worksheets themselves. This would allow you to better assess their reading comprehension and would give them something to work on during quiet times. I would suggest doing this with students that are already reading at the level or above the level of the book that you are studying. If they are unable to confidently read the book then the questions might be a little too much for them.

What do my children have to say about Progeny Press

Kayden (Gr 4): It was fun to do the book questions as a family. We had some really good talks. I’m happy my mom did the reading though.

Emily (Gr 1): I don’t really like this. I more just like to listen to the stories.
